Yi'sterday tin* first cnitciiing sale nf the season was held-in Wellington, and even though this sale is oik* ot oddments and it not tapped like a barometer for prospects, a lend was certainly obtained yesterday. 'The tirst: pleasing indie'nlioiK. was that, there was an exceptional attendance of buyers for* such an occasion. Then 4 here was keen competition, and it will be noted by the observant that all sections of buying trade were operating actively. Rest''indication of all. the whole offering was cleared — and at very satisfactory prices. A Eeilding lot of super-erutchings realised the excellent figure of 1()$d per lb, while other lots from this favoured district of ours brought from lOd to I<).jel per lb. Wool having boon the mainstay of our industrial finance ibis past, six months or more, it is gratifying .to learn from a man in the trade whose business takes him right through New Zealand that the prospects for next season are quite encouraging. not: only as to the maintenance* of the markets, hut as to quantity. Pas torn lists have been favoured. 'Then* is no report ol going out of business, excepting in isolated cases of men who have become* financially embarrassed owing to their having paid ie>o mue-li for the*ir lane]. The prospects are* better, with the* probabilities of just as big a yield next season as theme* was last season.
