Yi'sterday tin* first cnitciiing sale nf the season was held-in Wellington, and even though this sale is oik* ot oddments and it not tapped like a barometer for prospects, a lend was certainly obtained yesterday. Then 4 here was keen competition, and it will be noted by the observant that all sections of buying trade were operating actively. Rest''indication of all. the whole offering was cleared — and at very satisfactory prices. A Eeilding lot of super-erutchings realised the excellent figure of 1()$d per lb, while other lots from this favoured district of ours brought from lOd to I<).jel per lb. Wool having boon the mainstay of our industrial finance ibis past, six months or more, it is gratifying .to learn from a man in the trade whose business takes him right through New Zealand that the prospects for next season are quite encouraging. not: only as to the maintenance* of the markets, hut as to quantity.
