Alleged Assault.

ACCUSED COMMITTED FOR TRIAL.

A telephone message received last evening from Awanui states that tho Native, Horeki, who was recently arrested on a charge of assaulting another Maori, had been brought before the Court and com- •> mitted for trial at the noxt criminal sittings of the Court, to be held at Gisborne. The charge arose out of a row which recently took place at Tuparoa, the alleged, assault having been committed as the Natives journeyed from that place to their pah. The injured man has been 3 unconscious since January 14th, and tho case came on for hearing on Saturday without his being able to attend. Accused was admitted to bail in two sureties of £SO.
