Tho Right Rev. A. F. W. Ingram, Bishop of Stepnoy, succeeds Dr. Creighton as Bishop of London. Mr John Redmond will resist the provisions of the King’s civil list until the Government promises to legislate with regard to the coronation oath.
The first-class twin screw cruiser Kent, 9800 tons, and 22,000 horse-power, has been launched. Tho Eastern Extension Cable Company’s steamer Britannia left London on tho 6th, with tho Adelaido-Fremantlo section of the Cape cable aboard.
Tho cruisers St. George and Juno liavo sailed. They have accommodation for colonial personages voyaging between the different ports. Tho Times says that Bishop Stepney’s promotion will bo a glad surprise. He is not intellectually great, but he is a good organiser and lias an attractive animation and individuality.
