13y Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, March IS. Sir W. Lyme, speakiug in tho country, denied that the Federal celebrations had cost a quarter of a million. The actual cost was £92,000, of which tho Government got back from the railway in throe weeks over £60,000. Six members of tho Australian Contingent in Chiua returned invalided. One complained of tho harsh treatment ho was subjected to because ho growled at tho arduous work, and that tho officers wero mot treating the men properly. For their speakiug disrespectfully to tho officers they received ninety days’ hard labor in Hongkong gaol. He complains that ho was dressed in convict garb and herded with murderers and felons.
