Tho earthquake at Constantinople occurred during tho annual Mahonnncdan festival of Bairam. Tho high officials wero passing beforo tho Sultan’s throne, when portions of the ceiling chandcliors fell and caused a panic. The musicians rushed the doors. Tho Sultan rose, but again seated himself, and ordered the ceremony to proceed.
