Advices from Colombo sent on arrival of the troopship Britannic there stated that it bad been ascertained that altogether thirty Imperial soldiers had deserted during the visit to Austra i: au ports. Perth, April 12. The preliminary inquiry into the wreck of the steamer Karrakatta exonerated the captain and officers, and greatly praised the captain and chief engineer for their cool behaviour. The evidence proved that the steamer struck an unchaited rock.
