In tiie debate on the Budget Bill, Mr Chamberlain ridiculed Sir AV. Ilarcourt s pessimism over the financial prospects of the late Republics. Already the Orange Colony showed a surplus. Sir'Michael ilicks-Bcach stated that coal-tax concessions amounting to threequarters of a million will be provided out of loan funds. lie had still nineteen millions in hand.
During the thirteen months of the war forty-live millions have been provided out of taxation.
