THE MATE Or THE SCHOONER •BLAMED.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Christchurch, last night
Tiie nautical enquiry into the collision between- the steamer tndradevi and tiie schooner Inly was held at Lyttelton today. The Court held that every precaution had been taken by those on board the steamer to avoid a collision, and suitable wisdom and discretion had been shown by tho auxiliary second officer under the circumstances. Cm the other hand tho Court found it quite impossible to believe tho evidence of those on tho deck of the schooner, and considered that great neglect and want of discretion on the part oi the mate had, boon shown in-not earlier calling tiie master, who, it appeared to them, had been placed in a most false position by that want of discretion. Owing to tiie mate not holding a eertilicatc they were tumble to punish him in a way they considered tiie safety of the travelling public demanded, but they ordered him to pay £', 5s towards the cost of tho enquiry.
