SENSATIONAL SEQUEL TO MARRIAGE CE L E BRAT lON. DEFENDANT SHOOTS HIMSELF. by Telegraph—Press Association —Copyrigk. Sydney, Oct. 20. A sensational sequel to u marriage celebrated in Auckland a few weeks ago occurred yesterday, when a man named Alfred Adriad Pike was charged on a warrant with wife desertion. The information had been issued by the wife, and Piko was ordered to pay titteeu shillings per week towards her support and find security totalling TOO. in default six months’ imprisonment. lake declared that he was nimble to find security, and was removed to the cells. Shortly afterwards he shot himself with a revolver, which somehow he hud managed to secret, indicting dangerous wounds in his head. According to the story told by the wife they Were married in Auckland on September 10th. and left for Sydney by the Z.ealandia. Soon after they arrived in Sydney the husband began, to ill-treat and subsequently left her without funds. Being destitute, and believing he intended to leave for South Africa, she took out the warrant. Amongst Pike's effects were numbers of discharges from American coastal vessels.
