NAPIER RACES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Napier, last night. The second day of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s Summer Meeting was somewhat marred by heavy rain which fell early in the morning. This cleared, however, towards noon, and it was fine for the remainder of the day. The attendance was about up to the average for the second day of this meeting. The handicapping for to-day’s events was done by Mr Geo. Morse, of New Plymouth, in the absence of Mr J. E. Ilenrys. The starting was not equal to Mr H. Piper’s usual efforts. The racing was fairly good, there j being one or two close finishes. The sum 0f.£4078 was invested on the totalisator, making a total of £9942 for the two days. The Shannon won the big money with ridiculous ease from a weak field. The following are the results : January Handicap, 1 mile: Kiwa 1, I Lady’s Link 2, Ngaio 3. Scratched, Menura. Wop comfortably. Scurry, 4 furlongs: Float 1, Rain 2, Katriona 3. All started. Won easily, in 1.44. Divs. £2 5s and £2 6s. Summer Handicap, If miles : The Shannon 1, Sirius 2, Passion Fruit 3. Scratched, Kiwa. Destroyer and Paphos also started. Won by a couple of lengths. Time 2.19, div. £1 14s. Epsom Handicap, 1 mile: Reliance 1, Daphne 2, Wilson 3. Also started: Magillicuddy. Won by a length. Time 1.50. Div. £4 13s. Second Handicap Hurdles, If miles: Sylvanus 1, Rodara 2, Ii Jam 3. Chris also started. Won easily. Time 3.25. Div. £2 Is. Nursery Handicap, 54- furlongs : Eland 1, Liquefy 2, Drakesberg 3. Other starters : Rajah, Gold Seal, Gold Purse, Horouta, Fairy Dream, Ballyneety, Spring Bok. Capital finish, good third. Time, 1.124, Divs., £7 4s and £1 9s. Second Hack Handicap, 7 furlongs: Comfort 1, Cave 2, Fleka 3. Also started: Cobra, Rain, liowhete, Consistent, Andree, Waionui, and Meta McCarthy. Won by two lengths, Fleka a fair third. Time, 1.34. Divs., £3 18s and £2 13s. Grandstand Handicap, 7 furlongs.— Mongorftii 1, Torowai 2, Assayer 3. Also started: Lady’s Link and Snooze. A great race ended in a bare half-neck victory for Mongonui. Time, 1.31 3-5. Div., £5 15s. SOUTHLAND RACES. [By Telegraph—Press Association.] Invercargill, last night. The Southland Racing Club had good weather for the first day of the summer meeting. The attendance was good, and £3049 was put through the machine, about £IOO less than last year. The results were:— Hurdles: The Earl 1, Blackpool 2, Clinker 3. Hairtrigger was scratched. Div., £1 17s. Harness Trot: Ladysmith 1, St George 2, Beadle 3. Divs., £5 6s and £1 10s.
Invercargill Handicap : Ardnarff 1, Wild West 2, Maremma 3. Divs,, £2 8s and £1 11s. Trial Stakes : Waimea 1, Juggler 2, Forward Guard 3. Divs., £6 l2s and 12s. Flying Handicap : Foray 1, Cherrystone 2, May Queen 3. Divs,, £1 9s and 15s. Saddle Trot: Non Ami 1, Ching 2, The Duke 3. Divs., £8 3s and £1 3s. Novel Race: Wakefield 1, Silver Mine 2, Zeehan 3. Div., £2 2s. Waihopai Handicap: First Light 1, Belligerent 2, Edelweiss 3. Div., .£1 7s. Griffin, the owner, McComb, the rider, and the horse Edelweiss were disqualified for six months for suspicious praotice.
