WATER SUPPLY.
(To the Editor of the Times.) Sir, —Will you kindly 'inform me if the Mi Whim-ay who wrote to the meeting the other night a long, string of big words about the Waihuete scheme, condemning Engineer Mestayer is the same Mr Whinray as declared that lie could construct a railway to the Motu with a wheelbarrow and spade V A man who could do that would certainly be superior in ability to the eminent Mr Mestayer, a king in las profession. I hope that Messrs Lysnar and Whinray made a note of that cablegram stating that £40,000 would lie given to anyone who would inven t s steerable air balloon, or some thing of that sort. Their ingenuity might be turned to profitable account in that way.- It would be better so than employing their energies to stay the health and progress of the borough —I am, etc., NOBODY, (To the Editor of the Times.)
Sir,—Would it not be well to bring before the public of Gisborne something i;: which Mr W. D. Lysnar is not ai: expert, or better still, hand the borough over to his control. Why, that "gentleman really knows everything He gives the Council the benefit of his knowledge by raising legal qubmes at the eleventh hour, and he is eqi ally ready to give us his opinion as a:i engineer besides whom Mr Mestayer is ai- ignoramus. Somehow, I still preiei Mr Mestayer. It is really astonishing that a young man like Mr Lysnar should set his legal .opinion agai’ut that of the Borough solicitor, ami his engineering knowledge against th.it of Mr Mestayer, that instead of .-ousting in the progress of the place
he Simula forever be fighting against liaise who try to do some good for it. C.iDM'f. v.e put Mr Lysnar against s'jlsi* of the doctors ?-.-he has not nad a t.Lt with them lately. Mr Whin.-ay lever did d.sguise that he was agwnst progress. I Would suggest that now that, the Council is taking over that beautiful spot along the river bank, tie beautifying of which was so bit-tc-ly opposed by both those Councillor thev should occasionally take a promenade along that way arm-in-arm -1 am, etc., DE LESSEpS(
