BARQUE ON FIRE.

EXPECTED TO SINK. (By Telegtaph— Press Association) Wellington, last night. A fire, which had evidently been smouldering for some time, broko out at halfpast ten to-night in the fore hatch of the barque Jessie Osborne, which is lying at the wool jetty almost full of wool andtlax, for London. Tho flames were issuing from the hatch, when the fire brigade was summoned. It speedily arrived on the spot, and commenced to pour water into the vessel. At 11.45 smoke was still issuing in volumes from the hold, and under the influence of the tremendous amount of water pumped aboard the barque began to take a gradual list. Apparently there was no hope of saving the cargo. It is generally thought that the vessel will sink before morning.
