ATHLETICS AT AUCKLAND
GEORGE SMITH BREAKS WORLD'S RECORD FOR HURDLES.

The autumn carnival of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club was held yesterday afternooD in the Domain Cricket Ground. The attendance was poor when sports commenced, but increased later in the afternoon. The-track was naturally in a soft condition after the recent ram.
In an exhibition attack on the 120 yards hurdle record, George W. Smith, paced by W. Martiu, covered the distance in 15 1-5 secs. This beats H. W. Batger’s Australasian record by 4 oths of a second, and Alvin P. Kraenzlin’s world's record by 2-sths of a second. Four time-keepers agreed in making the time 15 l-sth seconds, -while another made it 15 dead.
