MILITARY CAMP.

MOUNTED MEN AT PALMERSTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) j Palmerston North, last night. Eighty-five men are in tho Mounted Camp, under Major Dunk. Lieutenant Davis is the instructor. Major-General Babington arrived at noon on Saturday. He held an inspection in the afternoon, and put the men through a course of work calculated to test their individual knowledge of drill. In a subsequent address, he stated that be bad not come to find fault, but to help tho men to the best of his ability. He deprecated too closo adhesion to book drill, but preferred that officers and men should as far as possible act according to their common sense. General Babington said that whilo in Now Zealand ho would endeavor to train the men in such a way as would preserve tho individuality of Colonial soldiers. He also advised the men to pay great attention to rifle shooting. He, created a very favorable impression in the minds of the men.
