A CHANGE OF NAME.

Among the telegrams this morning is the interesting item that the Busli Veldt Carbineers have decided upon a change of name. Apparently it was high time tiiat the Bush VeMts were wiped out of assistance as an adjunct of tJie British Army, hut perhaps the change of name will be sufficiently effectual, while it will also serve eo retain some good men still in the regular ranks out of those who comprised the disgraced corps. It now appears only too true that besides the snooting of Boers who came unarmed there entered into the doings of the black sheep such things as thieving, and be the British Army authorities ever so soft in their dealings with .the enemy, they were never known to show any leniency to those who, while fighting on the side of the British, departed in any degree from Die splendid antecedents of the British in dealing With an enemy. Those who shoot men not .fully prepared for fighting may be sure of speedy punishment, though perhaps had they been Boers caught in the like misconduct they would be ljgutly dealt with. Well may the Carbineers seek to expunge the blot by changing tlie name under which they had been fighting. The British public would not have the Carbineers at any price after what has happened.
