LABOR CONFERENCE.
[By Telegraph—PreßS Association.] Christchurch, last night. The Victorian Labor Commission commenced its sittings here this morning, and examined several employers of labor, especially with regard to the Concilation and Arbitration Act. They said Conciliation Boards did not conciliate, and suggested various amendments. All agreed, however, that the Act should not be swept away. The Hon. Mr Reid, a member of the Commission, said that the evidence given here with regard to Conciliation Boards was diametrically opposed to that given on tho same point in Dunedin. Several representatives of the Canterbury Trades Council said that the Act had beenbeneficial to employees and employers, and had improved the condition of workers.
