PALMERSTON NORTH NEWS.
By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, last night. Capt. Edwin’s prediction of heavy rain was abundantly verified to-night. Rain set in at 5 o’clock, and continued until 10.30 without intermission, the showers being particularly heavy. Rain has been falling in the interior for the past two days, and the rivers are reported to be rising. Tbe downfall will prove of enormous benefit to the farming community after the long period of dry weather. Dr. Valentine met the Borough Council this evening in reference to the appointment of a Sanitary Inspector under the Public Health Act and health matters generally. The Council decided to consider the matter.
This morning at 10 o’clock, the police were informed of a robbery of £27 19s from the Provincial Hotel. At 3 this afternoon Thomas Hefferman was arrested at' Aramoho, charged with the theft. Accused had £25 on him vvhen arrested.
