Wanganui, last nigm. A man named Whall had a remarkable escape from drowning last night. He was working on a small oil launch, and at 11.30, the night being pitch dark, while going aboard, he slipped on the ladder and fell into the river, striking the side of his face against the side of the launch. He lost consciousness till 3 o’clock this morning, when he found himself up to the neck in water. It is feared that serious injury has been done to his eye. Whall has been taken to the hospital.
