.VINCENT COUNTY. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN-, last night. Mr Cuthbertson, of Invercargill, has been appointed Engineer to the .Vincent County. PATRIOTIC FUND. The Patriotic Fund, which stood at over £SOOO when it was decided, to devote it to the assistance of returned men, has dwindled down to £2313. The amount disbursed has been £3047.
A THIEF*
At Port Chalmers to-day, John Murray, a seaman on the ’Rangatira, was sentenced to six months' hard labor for stealing a quantity or cargo, consisting of Japanese goods valued at £52, and a number of Dottles of English ale.
THE HOLIDAY CRAZE. 4 A deputation waited on the Mayor to-day with a memorial statement to be signed by 95 per cent of business people, objecting to more than one holiday on the occasion of the Corona-* tion. It was contended that the question of holidays, in view of the loss involved, must be left to business men and not to the Corporation" The Mayor said that the matter was in the hands of the Committee appointed at a citizens’ meeting, and they would no doubt carefully consider the memorial.
