A Rogue and His Dupes.

A young man named Charles Robert Donnelly was charged at the Magistrate’s Court on three charges of obtaining goods and money on false pretences. The statement of Inspector McDonnell showed that tho accused had represented himself as a lieutenant in the Royal Navy, ingratiating himself in the good graces of. select circles. He represented himself as an officer of the Kavrakatta, and invjted a large number of people to lunch with him on the arrival of the warship here. Meantime it became known that Donnelly had been convicted as a rogue and vagabond in Wellington, where he carried on the same kind of misrepresentation. He pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to three months on each charge. .
