BOWLING.
THE SHIELD COMPETITIONS. A great day’s bowling should be witnessed at the Gisborne Club’s green today, when ;the three local clubs—Kaiti, Gisborne, and Whataupoko—will play for the handsome shield presented by Mr J. A. Harding. Play will start at a quarter to ten, and in order that no one shall be debarred from having a game, the President, Mr Pettie, ha 3 kindly donated a trophy to be competed for by all players who are not engaged in the shield matches. The following teams have been selected:— ' Gisborne: Quigley, McGowan, Humphreys, and Ponsford (skip); T. Adair, Robertson, Massey, and 3audin (skip). Kaiti: W. Pettie, Jackson, Wallace, and Bright (skip) ; H. Lewis, T. Witty, Dixon, J. W. Witty (skip). . Whataupoko: Ambridge, Hookey, Ferri», Sidebottom (skip); Orr, Nicholas, Martin, Simson (skip).
