Auckland, last night. > Inspector Cullen has reoeived a report from the constable at Aratapu re- ’ garding the supposed drowning of ■William Keane, a fireman employed on the s.s. Ethel. It appears that on the , _ night of June 4th Keane left the steamer . • at Dargaville wharf to take a keel boat to another wharf, about a quartor of a mile away. The captain walked along to haul the boat up, and when about half-way ho - thought he heard a groan and a faint » co-oee.” The oaptain aroused the crew of the steamer, who searched the looality, but neither man nor boat could be found. .it •
