By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright SYDNEY, July 1. Eight hours a day comes into operation with tlie tramway and railway working stalls to-morrow. The change will cost. £(i(J,OUO per annum. The Commissioner is strongly opposed to tlie principle, and the cost will he borne by the general taxpayer instead of coming out of the railway revenue. The Vicar of Paeroa (the Rev. Mr Cowie)’, received the news of his father's death just before conducting an intercessory service for the health of the King, but went through the service without tlie congregation being aware of the death of their reverend Bishop.
