FARMERS’ UNION.
REVISING THE RULES,
By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, last night. Tho Farmers’ Union, resuming after lunch, decided to sit daily from 9.80 to 1 p.m., and from 2to 6 p.m, Tho movors of tho resolutions will bo allowed lo spoak ten minutes, and others fivo minutes. Tho Conference then wont into committee to consider and reviso tho platform and rules drawn up at tho Palmerston Conference of 1901. Rule 1 was amended to read as follows: "That tho Union shall consist of members who shall be (a) holders of rural lands, or persons engaged in agricultural, pastoral, fruit growing, or dairying pursuits ; (b) farm laborers who have been employod on a farm for three months or more immediately prior to admission; (o) any person interested in farming or farm produco may bo an honorary member, but will not have a vote, and will not bo entitled to hold otlice.
Rulo 3 was amended to provido for reason being stated in caso of notioo being given to oxpol a member. In rule 6, provision was made for tho branch chairman instead of the committee appointing a substitute for any delegate who cannot attend a meeting of tho Pro- g vinefal Council. ’
Rulo 8 was amended with respect to tho quota of members governing tho appointment of delegates. It is now provided that a Provincial Council representing botwoen 100 and 1000 members shall have oho delegate ; for any number up to 2000 two delegates, tho maximum numbor of delegates for a province being four. It was provided that the Executive Committee shall elect a Colonial secretary and treasurer.
The Conference adjourned till tomorrow. It will probably conclude on Wednesday.
