HOCKEY.

By Shinty.l Tho programme for yesterday afternoon was Kia JCulia A v. West End A, and Kia ivahu Bv. City B. The latter match waa won by the Kia Kaha B by default, their opponents, through unforeseen circumstances, not being able to muster a team. The fotmer match was played on No. 1 ground, and resulted in a win for Kia Kaha A by 5 goals to 2, after a very fast, open, and greatly improved (as regards combination) game. The two teams showed up to much greater advantage than in any of the preceding matches played this season, tho players apparently having taken my friendly rctnaiks made earlier in the season in good part, and now doing their level best to play up to the standard of the game. Tho names of tho individual scorers I was unable to obtain, but any remarks about their performances are superfluous, seeing that one and all wore playing their very hardest, and according to their lights their veiy best. A fairly large number of spectators witnessed tho match, and departed much impressed with the strides the sport has made. Messrs Pavitt and G. Buseke acted as referees, whilst Messrs Martin and Russrii ably controlled the line.

A largo number of enthusiasts, not seeing why they should be debarred from playing through tho B match falling through, picked up sides and had a real clinking practice game.
