The East Island Cable.
[By Telegraph—Press Association.] Wellington, last night. The Tutanekai has completed laying the cable between East Island lighthouse and the mainland. Although the two nearest points are only a mile and a half apart, it was found necessary to pay out five miles of cable in order to avoid the rocky bottom. The cable weighs ten tons per mile, and is the heaviest cable laid in New Zea« land waters,
