The Empire Skating Rink will be open this afternoon. Mr T. G. Lawless has several special notices in to day of properties for sale. Messrs Stubbs and Co., desire to purchase two or three acres of land within a wile of the firebell.
Two notices of impounding ut the Gisborne Round are given to-day by Mr Wilkinson, poundkecper.
Amongst the passengers by the Maruroa yesterday was Dr IJ. Morrisun, a wellknown Sydney medico, lie is at present staying at the Masonic Hotel. Signs of an early spring are now apparent, the willows in several parts of the district putting forth their leaves. Lambing lias also commenced on the flats, and, given fine weather, the flocks should fare well.
A meeting of the Gisborne Tent, Nc. 04, 1.0.11., S.X., was beid in the Tent room last evening, Bro. E. Ebeling, Chief Ruler, presiding. Two now members were initiated, two elected, and another proposed.
Hongkong advises that the land line to
Foochow is interrupted b.y a typhoon. Messages will be forwarded by boat from Sharp Beak. Berne advises that telegrams for places in Peninsula of Yulatan are subject to delay. Telegrams for places in the interior of Columbia may again bo accepted.
Matters in connection with tbo Coronation celebrations are now being arranged. At tho meeting of tho Keehabites last evening, a request was received from the Coronation Celebration Committee, asking the Tent to join in the procession on tho day. After due consideration, the Tent decided not *o take any action in the matter.
The hockey teams to represent City in their matches against Kia Kaha and West End, to be played at Victoria Domain today, will be selected from tiie following: “ A ” team : 0. Buscko, A. Coleman (capt), Doylo (2), Tanner, McClure, J. 11. Wells, Zachariuh, H. DeCosta, llyan, J. Martin, J. Adair, E. Lewis, and H. Morgan. “B” team : S. Coleman, F. Gumming, A. Luttrell, Pulling, Trotter, Dobson, Sargisson leapt), Bolton, and Friar. A joint meeting of tho Harbor Board and Borough Council will be held this evening, when tho following report will be presented from Mr John King, harbor engineer :—“ Agreeably with your instructions I have prepared plans and estimate of tho cost of filling and breastwork at the point near the junction of tho Waimata and Tarulicru rivers proposed to be done preparatory to tho erection of a band rotunda, tho breastwork to bo erected approximately on tho boundary lino as shown on the standard survey of the town of Gisborne, to eommenco at the Kuiti bridge, and to continued along the right bank of tho river for a distance of 588 ft. The top of the breastwork to bo 2ft above high water mark, as shown on the Haiti lido gauge, tho earthwork to be executed in accordance with the grade shown on tho accompanying section. This estimate does not include any road formation.” Tho estimate furnished by Mr King totals 42389 Ids 2d. Messrs E. N. Sidebottom and A. J. Massey announce tho second of the present series of subscription chamber concorts for Thursday, August 14th, in the Academy of Music. The promoters of these concerts are deserving of tho thanks of all lovers of high-class music for their efforts to keep us in touch with all that is best in music, and giving Gisborne audiences
opportunities —alas, only too rare —of hearing the compositions of tho best composers. The forthcoming concert promises a delightful treat, judging from tho excellent programme arranged. Mr
Leo Buckeridge, the renowned voicetrainer, of Napier, will contribute such fine numbers as “ Myself When Young" (Lehmann), “Thou’rt Passing Hence” (Sullivan), and “ ’Tis l ” (Pinsuti). The box-plan will be opened to-day at Messrs Chrisp and Son’s, and wo advise all desirous of enjoying an artistic interpretation of high-class music to book their seats early.
