WATER SUPPLY.
(To Die Editor Gisborne Times.)
Sir, —How long is the town to put up with the disgrace' of not having a water supply ? It is nonsense to say that it is 3 not obtainable. It could be obtained from 3 tho Waipaoa river within five or six miles 6 of Gisborne. All that is needed is to take ! levels from the town to the river, ascer- ! tain the pressure required, lay pipes o.ut, and with the aid of an eight or ten horse power engine pump the water to a reservoir capable of holding from 300 to 400 gallons of water. No more engineering skill would be required than the taking of the levels. If the Council is too supine to move in the matter, it could be taken up by a private company who would have the water supplied to Gisborne in three months. The present condition of things is most injurious to the place, and prevents many people coming here. At Coolgardie the water is brought 400 miles, while here it could be brought from five or six miles, in the same way as hr done in Moama and Echuca. It is to bhoped that, for the well-being of tho con munity, there will he an end to the eve lasting delay in this matter.—l am. etc B. Bov-j.
