Yesterday’s State service of thanksgiving in the open-air was attended by the Viceroy, the Duke and Duchess of Connaught, representatives ol all branches of the public service, and a solid array of British soldiers. The Bishops of Calcutta and Jahore officiated. The responses were regulated, so that at a given signal bandsmen sang them through megaphones, giving a grand effect. A number of Pathans attempted to seize a quarter of a million pounds worth of gems exhibited at 1 lie Art Exhibition at Delhi, but the attempt .vas frustrated after a - scuffle with the police.
