MR SHELTON IN AUCKLAND.
AN INTERESTING INTERVIEW,
(Special to the Times.) AUCKLAND, last night. Mr F. J. Shelton returned from America" last evening, where lie has been on business in connection with the development of trade between that country and New Zealand. He has had a capital trip, and visited most of the chief centres in the United States and Canada. In conversation to-day with the Times representative, Mr Shelton said there, were great possibilities in America for New Zealand trade. Wherever he went he heard New Zealand freely sppuen of, and this colony's advanced legislation was being watched with interest. The labormeasures especially were being looked upon with favor, as also was the old age pensions. In comparison with former trips, he noticed a better knowledge amongst Americans of this colony.
New Zealand, he said, was a great deal more quoted than was Australia Speaking of combines and trusts, Mr Shelton said that although they undoubtedly resulted in many evils, one good effect was concentration oi industries and the cheapening of products. Concentration of industries was badly required in New Zealand. Mr Shelton will remain in Auckland for a fortnight or so, and then proceeds to Sydney and Melbourne. He. intends ultimately, to settle in Auckland.
