EAST COAST NEWS.
TUPAROA
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
Tho Now Year passed off quietly except for the ringing of sundry bells by a few enthusiasts who determined to keep up (as near as possible) tho old-timed custom of making an infernal row on kerosene tins between tho hours of twelve and one o’clock. The Maoriß had a triple wedding at Te Bapu, there being a large muster of old and young from far and near, and what with threo weddings, a wedding breakfast and sundry other meals, also a dance in tho evening you can imagine how well they must havo spent their New Year.
Tho weather hero along the Coast still seems settled and unbroken, and both man, beast, and vegetation are looking very dry and badly want rain. The Tuparoa cricketers play Tolago on Friday the 9th at Matahiia.
