POVERTY BAY ROWING CLo' P ' S DOUBLE SCULLS.
The Poverty Bay Rowing Club commenced their double scull competition last evening for the photos presented by Mr jB. S. Cox, The course was over the Taruheru from Mr Cussen’s to the sheds, the distance beiDg a mile. The high wind prevailing made the water rather but notwithstanding this a good contest took place. The race was between C. Priestly, F. Clark A. Pritchard, scr M. McLeod, 5 sec McLeod and Clark, who had a handicap of five seconds, took full advantage of it, and from the start maintained their lead. At the footbridge they led by a little over a leDgtb, their opponents making every effort to overhaul them. A tough struggle took place over the rest of the distance, but McLeod and Clark, pulling well together, were not to be robbed of thenadvantage, and gaming five seconds on their handicap, passed the post ten seconds ahead of their rivalsThis evening the competing crews will be : _ V.
