Palmerston North, last night. The match between Lord Hawke s team and the Manawatu representatives was continued to day in tempestuous ; weather. Tho Englishmen declared their L innings of 307 closed, and Manawatu batted. Goldingham and Harden faced tho bowling of Thomson and Burnup. Playing carefully four singles and a >yo were scored iD the first four ovors, nn in the last ball of tho fifth over of Burnup s, Goldiiigbam’a bails were carried away by a yorker. Tattorsall followed, and was tho first to get beyond a single, putting tho ball to leg for three. Harden soon followed with a boundary hit. Tattoraall gave two chances, but thov were just miaaed, first by Johnson at point and tho other by Thomson in the slips. A change in the bowling was made. Dowaon replacing Thomson. After a few singles had been scored by careful plaj Tattersall’s middle stump was taken by Burnup; 29-2-8. He was succeeded by J. Skolley. A few runs wero added, and Harden was given out log before ; 37—3—15. Bice followed, scoring one. Ho was shortly afterwards run out; 43—4—1. H. Skelley partnered his brother, but tho latter’B wicket soon fell, Burnup catching a soft return ; 4b - j Tho noxt batsman, Malcolm, scored two, and was bowled, and the next man, Marden, also had a short life ; 60 7 u.
