POVERTY BAY ROWING CLUB'S DOUBLE SCULLS.

The double scull competition of the Poverty Bay Rowing Club was continued last evening on tho Taruhoru, when two more heats of the first round took place, both races being oxciting ones. The first race was between V. Somervell S. Roderiok A. W. Kirk, 3 aeo J. Webb, 3 seo Both tho crews being allowed the same handicap, a splendid race was anticipated, and it proved such. Tho start effected waß a capital one, neither boat having an advantage. Both crews scullod hard to cepura a lead, but this wa3 denied either bipw’until a considerable distance had been traversod. The boats kept abreast of each other until the footbridge was reached, under tho span of which Kirk and Somervell passed with a slight load. Passing the jetty Kirk increased bis boat’s lead, despite his rivals’ efforts to get on oven terms. A littio lower down the rivef saw thß leading boat further in front, and passing Reid’s it was two lengths ahead of its opponent. Webb and Roderick now spurted vigorously, and gained quiokly on the leaders, but could not overtake them, Kirk and Somervell securing a win by a length.

The other event was between G. Klee W. Pritchard C. Kirk, 3 sec W. Parker, 12 sou Mr F. Clark despatched tho crews to their handicap Btart, and Parker and Pritchard made tho best use of their time allowance, securing a good lead. Both crews soon settled down to work, and the three seconds men were to be seen slowly but surely overhauling the leaders. Kirk and Klee remained in the rear till tho footbridge was passed, when they drew up with the leaders. At the jetty Kirk and Klee wore half a length in the van, which lead they increased, despito repeated spurts by their opponents, and romped _ homo victors by a length.
