Owing to a strike of shipbuilders and joiners at Ncwcastle-on-Tyno the orders for fourteen new ships have gone to Germany. Mr W. G. The British imports for December increased by £1,400,000, and the exports decreased by £94,000 compared with the previous December. The Pacific Cable authorities advise that it is necessary for messages for Honolulu to add 2s Id to the rate to California. The Board are considering a proposal for a branch cable connecting Fanning Island with Honolulu also the New -Zealand Government’s suggestion to utilise wireless; telegrapny on this section. An official return shows there are 97(1,000 male and 856,000 female voters in the Commonwealth.
NEW YORK, Jan, 8. The American Senate’s Foreign Affairs Committee reported favorably on a general international arbitration treaty applicable to the Western Hemisphere, recommended by the PanCongress held at Mexico.
