COMMERCIAL

At the Waereuga-a-hika stock salo, held on Tuesday by Messrs Common, Shelton and Co., Limited, Dalgoty and Co., Limited, and Wyllie and Mason, there was a large attendance, attracted principally by the entry of heifers from Hawke’s Bay. Owing, doubtless, to the scarcity of feed duo to the continued dry weather, buyers wero slow in bidding, and the 3ale lacked the spirit which characterised tho December sale, especially for sheep. All things considered, howevor, cattle sold fairly well, 378 head being sold out of an entry of 472. Entries of sheep totalled 2700, of which 1300 wore sold. Prices realised were :—Fat and forward bullocks £8 to £9 ss, forward three-year steers £7 10s, 21-year steers £6 to £6 6s, heifers from Hawke's Bay (a -choice lot) £6 6s, 18-months heifers £4 15s to £5, yearling do. £3 17s 6d, 18 mouths stßers £5, yearling do. £3 4s, weauers 295, springing cows and heifers £5 10s to £7 ss, Shorthorn bulls from £6 to £2l (tho latter for a Hawke’s Bay bull). Sheep : Store wethers in forward condition 10s to 10s 7d, ewes do. 7s 9d to 10s, aged ewes in wool with lambs (all counted) ss, aged ewes (shorn) in low condition 3s 6d, cull lambs in wool 3s 3d to 4s. Rams were not in demand, and wero passed in. A line of 800 wethers were also passed. Pigs : Weaners 12s 6d, well-bred young sows 255, porkers (small) 20s. The next salo takes place on Thursday, February sth, before which we hope rain will alter things.
