CHRISTCHURCH NEWS.
CANTERBURY COLLEGE. (Per Press Association.) Christchurch, last night. The Canterbury College Board of Governors have accepted tho resignation of Dr Denby of the Professorship of Bichology, and has appointed Dr Chileon, of Christchurch, to the position, provided he disposes of his present practice as oculist within twelve months, he, however, to bo at liberty to act as opthalmie surgeon, subject to the approval of the Board. It was decided to advertise for a lecturer on geology at JilOO a year, Capt. Ilutton having resigned the position, and expressed unwillingness to carry it on for another year, unless no one else could bo obtained.
DRAUGHTS. The Committee appointed in connection with the New Zealand draughts tournament decided that the tourney be played on the all-round system, every player to meet every other player in two games, the competitor scoring the greatest number of wins to be declared the champion for the year.
TRAM ACCIDENT. At the inquest on tho young man Albert Ernest Martin, killed in a tram accident on Tuesday night, tho jury returned a verdict of death from shock, and no blame was attributable to anyone for the accident.
