At tho band contest the result of tho B flat bass solo was: C. Gallop, Woolston, 90 points, 1; 13. Holben, Palmerston, 58, 2 ; F. Albrecht, Ruahine, 04, f 3; H. Wellington, Masterton, 80, 4. Fugol horn solo : J. Fea, Kaikorai, 94, 1; Drury, Wellington, 86,2; E. Gould, Wanganui, 78, 8 ; ,J. Morrison, Waihi, 65, 4; W. Cooper, Denniston, 56, 5; R.

Robins, Masterton, 6. Later.—This afternoon tho E flat cornet solo competition took place. There were fifteen entries, but only seven faced the judgo. The winner was A. Schnack, Kaikorai, with 97 points oat of a possible 100; J. McGrath, Southland, being second, with 96 points, and McAra, North-east Valley, 90 points, third. The judge spoko very highly of tho playing, and said that all the competitors wore worthy of a place in any band. Tho total number of marks he awarded in this competition was the highest he had ever awardod in a similar competition. This evening fiftoen bands took part in the first of two test selections, u Le Domino Noir.” The result will be announced when tho two tost pieces and the quickstep competion aro concluded on Friday night. Ic is considered the championship rests between Wanganui, Wellington, North-east Valley, Kaikorai, and Denniston.

Tho Gisborno boys are behaving thomsolvos splondidly, and aro being troated woll at tho Contral Hotel, whore thoy are staying. Moro to-morrow.
