FIRE IN ABERDEEN ROAD.

About a quarter past nine last evening, a firo occurred in Aberdeen road, a tourroomed house, owned by Mrs Anne Kirk, and occupied by Mr Percy Geeves, being totally destroyed. Mr Geoves was away in town attending a Lodge meeting, and Mrs Geeves and her little son retired to bed about half-past seven. They were awakened at 9.15 by smoko coming into the bedroom, and found the house to bo on firo. They immediately got out of the house and gave tho alarm, and Mr W. F. Crawford and others soon arrived on the scene and saved a cheffonier, a table, and other articles of furniture, of the value of four or five pounds. Tbe fire apparently originated at tho back of the mautol-piece in the kitebon, burning into the front room. The firo in the stove seemed to bo out at 6 o’clock in the evening. The furniture was in the Phoenix for £IOO, and the house is supposod to bo insured for a similar amount. The firebell in upper Gladstone road was rung when the fire had been burning for some time, and tho lower bell was also needlessly rung. Constable Doyle arrived on tho soene soon after the outbreak of the fire, and assisted in saving some of the effects. The Fire Brigade were in readiness, but, being of opinion that the fire was some distance from town, they did not turn out.
