LONG SERVICE MEDALS.

Tho Colonial auxiliary force’s long service medal has been awarded to Gunner Jas. Holmes, Petone Navals ; Colonel Gudgeon, N.Z. Militia ; Capt. A. Fookes, Ashourton Rifles ; Colonel Robin, Dunedin ; Captain Barltrop, Manchester. INDISCREET OFFICIAL. To-night’s Gazette contains the formal announcement of the dismissal of Angus John McCurdy, telegraphist, from the Public Service. McCurdy was recently brought to book for acting as secretary of a branch of the Farmers’ Union.
While George Hamilton was on the wharf at Jarvis Bay, New South Wales, watching a launch from the Royal Arthur come alongside, one of the stanchions of the launch struck Hamilton in the right breast, inflicting a serious wound and rendering him unconscious. He was taken on board the Royal Arthur for treatment.
The arrivals in tho colony last year (30,293) greatly exceeded the number recorded in 1901 (25,086), and similarly the departures during 1902 (22,301) were more than those in the previous year (18,654). - The excess of arrivals over departures last year was 7992 as against 6522 in 1901. The comparative tables show that the colony has drawn to itself in oach of the ten yoars 1893 to 1902, more population than it has parted with — a sure sign of prosperity.
