Ten Whitehead torpedoes, with an engine and compressors, which were stored in tho torpedo sheds at Shelly Bay, have been sold to Cable and Co., local iron founders, for £IOO. In counootion with tho Newtown licensing enquiry, Messrs 801 l and Atkinson to-day applied to the Supremo Court (for a writ of prohibition to prevent the Stipendiary Magistrate disallowing certain votes at tho poll, on the ground that the Magistrate had not jurisdiction, and a scrutiny of certain votes as proposed would destroy tlio secrecy of the ballot. The Chief Justice and Judge Edwards are hoaring the application as one of urgency. Tho Rev. W. O. Waters, vicar of St. Peters, Wellington, has accepted tho living of Shernhorne, Sandringham, offered by his Majesty the Xing.

LYTTELTON, last night

Arthur James (25), engineer of a steam launch, was found dead in the sea near the launch this morning. It is supposed he was stunned by a fall.
