At tho meeting of the Borough Council last evening, the advocates of the Waimala and Waihiroro sources, in regard to a water supply for Gisborne, had a good innings, and at times the discussion was of a lively character. Cr Lysnar made a strong advocacy of the claims of AVaimata, ami Cr Harding made an equally effective response in reference to Waihiroro. In concluding his remarks, Cr Harding stated that he was prepared to back his opinion to the extent of £SO, the proceeds to go to the Hospital, that the tlow of water at V/aihirere at tho present time was four incheo
Cr Lysnar : 1 will pul up the sum nf £sll that there is no flow of water equal io a four-inch pipe. Cr Harding: We want something more than your statement ... We have had enough of that in the past. 1 am prepared to stiek to what, f say.
'Hie subject was allowed to drop at, the time, but later in the evening! Cr Lysnar remarked : “ 1 am willing to accept Cr Harding’s challenge,but, I am speaking of a four-inch pipe or three-inch pipe. If Cr Harding is agreeable, 1 am willing to forfeit £SO to the Hospital, if he will do Iho same, in regard to the question as lo whether the (lor at Waihirere will fill a four-inch pipe.” Cr Harding : 1 said nothing of tile sort. I said that, there was four inches of water (lowing over the falls. Cr Lysnar : A four-inch flow is different to a four-inch pipe. 1 take it that you mean cubic inches. Cr Harding : You -cannot- gauge the water unless you have force behind it. Cr Lysnar : I Ml, fills a, four-inch pipe I will he salislied. Cr Harding: I am prepared to put up my £sfi if I here is not a fourinch (low of water. fam not going into child’s play. Cr Lysnar: If you make if a fourinch pipe, I will take you up at once. The Mayor called the members to order, and the subject was allowed lo drop.
