As an indication of the ruling values for the ensuing season’s oat harvest (says the Wyndham Farmer), we may quote that a growing crop of 70 acres of oats, of excellent promise, in Knapdale, was sold by auction the other day on behalf of Mr R. McNab, M.H.R., and realised £3 per acre, after good competition.
The Government, however reluctantly (or at least unenthusiastically), are begin, ning to realise that the majority of the people of New Zealand are in no. mood to be trifled with in regard to this matter of the abuses of the liquor traffic. The new reforming zeal of the trade itself cannot be implicitly trusted. A more disinterested agency—the Legislature, in fact—must supervise and direct the work. Dunedin Star,
