BOWLING.
There was a large attendance at the bowling green yesterday, when a number of interesting matches were played. The first draw in the championship singles was made, and a most keenly contested game was played between Messrs Ponsford and Coleman. In the middle of the game Ponsford drew away from his opponent and had a lead of seven points, but Coleman succeeded in reducing this on the 17th and 18th heads, and at the conclusion of the 20th head had a lead of one. The last head was a most exciting one, and Ponsford scoring two points won by a point. Following are. the details of the afternoon’s play:—

Adair Massey (skip) 17 Simson (skip) 14 Williams Cussen Skeet Ambridge Simson (skip) 8 Gaudin (skip) 9 Morgan Orr Harding Gibbs Hennessy Martin Hookey (skip) 17 Pettie (skip) 17 In the 220 d head Hookey’s rink won by two points.
The following is the result of the draw in the first round for the championship:— W. Pettie v. Dixon, Sidebottom v. Simson Hennessy v. Hookey, Gaudin v. Nasmith McGowan v. Bright, Wallace v, C. Adair, O’Meara v. Massey, Martin v. Birss, Ponsford v. Coleman, Witty v. Harding.
