Mr Choate, the American Ambassador, was entertained by the Pilgrims’ Club. In the course of a speech ho attributed the improved relations between Great Britain and America to the popular will of each country, also to Lord Salisbury’s and Lord Lansdowne’s union candour, fairness, and friondlincss on every question, maintaining cordial, warm and hearty relations, nor could ho ignoro King Edward’s influence in heartily commending union.

For instance, it having been found in one factory that the flavor of the butter was not perfect, investigation was made, when the trouble was traced to a well containing indifferent water. The water from this well had been used to rinse the machines, and when its use was discontinued the butter immediately improved. Greater facilities for this experimental work are required, however.
Large hauls of big schnapper are beino caught off Coal Cliff, Clifton, New South Wales, by local fishermen in small open boats. A fishing club is being formed at Clifton, and it is intended to purchase a new oil launch, at a cost of £IBO.
