MINISTER’S CLAIM FOR DAMAGES

(Per Press Association.) New Plymouth, last night.

Tho hearing of tho charge of murder against Walter Smith has concluded. After retiring for eight minutes, a verdict of not guilty was returned. No evidence was offered against tho same prisoner on a eharge of arson, and accordingly the prisoner was discharged.

Robert Moboll was sentenced to two years’ for forgery and passing a valueless cheque. The criminal business is ended. The Court was ongaged this evening in hearing a civil action for libel and slander brought by the Rev. Mr Hutson, Presbyterian minister at Stratford, against A. Morrison, a prominent member of the church, and throe thousand pounds damages are claimed.
