Trentham Rifle Range, lust night.

The following is the prize-list in the Volunteer Match, at 200, 500 and 600 yards, seven shots: —Soiail (Kaitangata), £6, 97; Ching (Waimea), £5, 96 ; Winslade (Wanganui), £4, 96; Aysou (Taieri), £3, 96; Senior (Coromandel), L‘3, 96; A. McKenzie (Oarnaru), 96 ; P&rslow (No. 3 Ohinemuri) 95, Porteous 95, and Irvine (Waimea) 96, £2 each.

Later.—A series of two volunteer matches, A and B, was fired during the day, concluding late in the afternoon. A was 200yds, DOOyds and 600yds, seven shots ; B 600yds and 700yds, ten shotß ; both being under the service conditions without paraphernalia. Tho result showed that as good shooting could be made without as with the aids used in other matches. The weather was fine, and excellent scoring was done in the A match, but tho freshening wind interfered somewhat with firing during the B match. The prizes, representing in the aggregate j£so, were each' keenly contested, considering the weather conditions. Very few possibles were mado. Smaill, Kaitangata, had the best record in the A match, getting two 34’s and 29, 97, and there were three of 96 and 67—Ayson, East I Taieri Rifles ; Winslade, Wangannui; McKenzie, Queen’s Rifles, Oarnaru. In the B match the top scorer was Purnell, Patea, 86, with Winslade as runner-up. Lester (Canterbury), Cornes (Ohinemuri), McCardell (Hastings) each scored 74. The day’s proceedings closed with snapshooting at 300yds, seven shots. There were about 300 competitors, moßb of the rifle clubs taking a hand in this competition. Targets, consisting of head and shoulders, were exposed 4sec for each shot. Most of the competitors got their shots well away, and a fair number of hits were registered on the targets. The event, which is strictly a service one and intended to promote shooting such as is required in modern warfare, is evidently becoming a favorite with volunteers. The prize list, which is sure to be very lengthy, will not be known till tomorrow.

Winslade wins the Carbine Cup, being highest aggregate in the A and B matches.

A meeting is being held in camp to consider various grievances. Later.—The following is the prize-list in the Volunteer Match, B, 600 and 700yds, 10 shots: Purnell (Patea), £6, 86; Winslade (Wanganui), £5, 85 ; Lester (Canterbury), £4, 84; Coroes (Ohinemuri), £3, 84 ; McCardell (Hastings), £3, 84 ; Parkes (Palmerston North) 83, Sothern (Greymouth) 83, Senior (Coromandel) 82, each £2.
