FIRE BRIGADES DEMONSTRATION

Napier, last night. The Firo Brigades’ demonstration was osumed this morning in fine weather. The first event finished was the Hoso Ileol Flat, five men, won by Thames, 55sec, South Dunedin and Napier tieing for second arid third places with 57ace, Grey, mouth and Kumara tieing for fourth and filth positions with 08scc. The prizes arc £22 10s, £ls, £lO, £7 10s, and £5. Napier and South Dunedin agreed to divide second and third money in the

Hoso Reel Flat and run off for places in view of the aggregate prize. In the run off Napier put up bettor time than the winning team, Thames, by threo seconds. Kumara and Groymouch tossed for fourth and fifth places, Kumara winning. Tbo Hoso, Hydrant and Union event, five men, resulted : Spit 1, Cavorsbam 2, Napier and Lawrence a tio for third, and Timaru 4.

Later.—The Fire Brigades demonstration was continued to day. The weather opened fine, but towards afternoon a slight drizzling rain fell, which howover, did not afleot the attendance very seriously, there boing nearly 4000 peoplo on tho ground. The hose and hydrant and union event for five mon, and tho hose and roel flat for five men were completed to-day. The ladder race, one man, was run in heats, tho fastest time being 7 3-sscc. Christchurch in their run against Greyruouth, and Gisborne against Napier in the semifiuai round, four North Island and four South Island competitors wore loft in, but tho North Island put down .their opponents in oach trial, loaving Master-ton, Gisborne, Napier, and Hastings to battle for places, the brigades finishing in that ordor. In tho one man manual ovent C. Borough, of the Christchurch City, completely distanced his opponents, doing his work quickly and cleanly, boing penalised only lsec.
