Marter, accompanying a baker on on his round, .was thrown off the cart through the wheel going into a rut. The wheel went over his head, and he died on died on his way to the hospital. PALMERSTON N., last night, The Furnishing Trade Union of Employers in Hawkes Bay, Wanganui, and Rangitikei intend holding a meeting here, the headquarters of the Union, to discuss the recent lock out in .the furniture trade in Auckland, recent arbitration awards, and generally questions affecting employers interests.. CHRISTCHURCH, last night, Benjamin Jells, 77 years of age, fell oil a ladder while repairing the roof of a house, and died at the hospital. At the inquest, a verdict was returned that he died from concussion of the brain. The adjourned hearing oi the tailors’ dispute was before the Arbitration Court- this morning. An applieaiio by the employers for leave to amend the expert’s report on the log Was discussed. The Court adjourned till this afternoon, when its decision will be given. In regard to the Ellesmere licensing election, dissatisfaction was expressed at. tiie poor arrangements for getting the returns.... Harvesting operations in this district have almost been finished. The returns promise to be exceptionally good. Threshing is proceeding ail ovc. the district, the crops yielding from 60 to 100 bushels of oats and 35 to 69 of .wheat.
