MR CAMERON’S WARNING TO NEW ZEALAND. A FORMIDABLE RIVAL. (Per Press Association,} Wellington, last night. Tho Department of Commerce and Industries has received a copy of a report mado to tho Agout-Genoral by Mr Cameron, New Zealand Produco Commissioner iu London, with reference to tho distribution of New Zealand and River Plato moat in England. Mr Cameron sayß that though New Zealand sent 33,892 more carcases of mutton in 1902 than in 1901 the consignments eumo to hand with great irregularity. For tho first seven months of the year the numbers received *■* each month from New Zoalund wero satisfactory. Then, during tho following two months, the shipments wore doubled, but during tho last quarter of the year the supplies received wero not nearly sufficient to meet the ordinary market demands. When Now Zealand shipments "fell off those from River Plate wero increased, and the opportunity taken of pushing sales in channols formerly open to Now Zealand. Prices wero kept moderate, and every means wore used to induce retailers who had previously handled New Zealand mutton to substitute River Plate. Several markets wore greatly developed iff tibia way. Mr Cameron goes on to say that the methods of the River Plate shippers aro on sound business lines, and in strong contrast to those of New Zealand. Unless tho latter makes a drastic change she will fall behind.
